Eligibility Criteria

A. General Eligibility

The candidate must:

1.      Be a citizen of India.

2.      Possess the academic and professional/teacher-training qualifications prescribed by NCTE.

3.      For Special School Teacher posts, possess qualifications prescribed by RCI.

4.      Possess the applicable Teacher Eligibility Test qualification.

Required TET

Teachers appointed before 2012 who are working and pass the applicable efficiency/competency examination are exempted from the TET requirement as specified in the notification.

Candidates appearing in STET 2026 may also apply if they possess the required academic and training qualifications, but they must qualify STET 2026 before the Preliminary Examination; otherwise the Preliminary Examination admit card will not be issued.

Educational Qualification

Classes 1–5 — Primary Teacher

Any applicable qualification prescribed in the notification, including:

• Higher Secondary with at least 50% marks + 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education.
• Higher Secondary with at least 45% marks + 2-year D.El.Ed. as per applicable NCTE regulations.
• Higher Secondary with at least 50% + 4-year B.El.Ed.
• Higher Secondary with at least 50% + 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education).
• Graduation + 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education.

Urdu Teacher

For Classes 1–5 Urdu posts, the notification accepts the specified qualifications such as Maulvi/Alim, Intermediate with Urdu, or Graduation in Urdu from a recognized university, along with the applicable training qualification.

Bangla Teacher

• Intermediate with Bangla with the prescribed marks, or
• Graduation in Bangla from a recognized university.

The notification also specifically discusses recognition of 18-month NIOS D.El.Ed. for eligible teachers as stated therein.

Classes 6–8 — Middle School Teacher

Posts are divided into:

• Mathematics & Science
• Social Science
• Language

Main qualification routes include:

• Graduation + 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education.
• Graduation/Postgraduation with at least 50% + B.Ed.
• Graduation with at least 45% + applicable B.Ed.
• Higher Secondary with at least 50% + 4-year B.El.Ed.
• Higher Secondary with at least 50% + 4-year B.A./B.Sc.Ed.
• Graduation + 1-year B.Ed. (Special Education), where applicable.
• Postgraduation with at least 55% + 3-year integrated B.Ed.-M.Ed.
• Specified BCA/MCA routes.
• Engineering graduation with Science/Mathematics specialization + B.Ed.
• B.Sc. Biotechnology/Electronics + B.Ed., where specified.

Subject Requirements

Language: Relevant language must have been studied at graduation level as Hons./Subsidiary.

Social Science: Any two relevant subjects at graduation level from History, Geography, Political Science, Philosophy, Economics, Commerce, Psychology, Sociology and Home Science.

Mathematics & Science: Any two relevant subjects from Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Botany/Zoology.

Classes 9–10 — Secondary & Special School Teacher

General Subjects

Main routes include:

• At least 50% marks in the specified subject/subject group at Graduation/Postgraduation + B.Ed.
• Applicable 45% + B.Ed. route under specified NCTE regulations.
• Four-year B.A.Ed./B.Sc.Ed. in the specified subject/subject group.

Physical Education

The notification provides several qualification routes, including specified marks in Physical Education, recognized sports participation, B.P.Ed., sports coaching/training and other NCTE-prescribed alternatives.

Music

• At least 50% marks in Graduation in Music Education or equivalent qualification from a recognized university/board/institution.

Fine Arts

• At least 50% marks in Graduation in Fine Arts or equivalent.

Dance

• At least 50% marks in Graduation in Dance Education or equivalent.

Special School Teacher — Classes 9–10

The notification specifies:

• Graduation with minimum 50% marks from a recognized university.
• B.Ed. in Special Education from an RCI-recognized institution with valid CRR number, or prescribed equivalent qualification.
• 6-month cross-disability teaching training, subject to the relaxation described in the notification if the RCI has not started the training.

Classes 11–12 — Higher Secondary Teacher

For general subjects, the notification specifies routes including:

• Postgraduation in the specified subject with at least 50% + B.Ed.
• Postgraduation with at least 45% + B.Ed. under specified NCTE regulations.
• Postgraduation with at least 50% + B.A.Ed./B.Sc.Ed.
• Postgraduation with at least 55% + 3-year integrated B.Ed.-M.Ed.

Computer Science

Multiple qualification routes are specified, including:

• DOEACC 'A' Level + Postgraduation.
• B.E./B.Tech. in Computer Science/IT or equivalent.
• B.E./B.Tech. in any stream + PG Diploma in Computer.
• M.Sc. Computer Science/MCA or equivalent.
• Graduation/BCA in Computer Science + Postgraduation.
• PG Diploma in Computer Science + Postgraduation.
• DOEACC 'B' Level + Postgraduation.
• DOEACC 'C' Level + Graduation.
• Three-year MCA course.

B.Ed. is not mandatory for Computer Science candidates, as specifically stated.

Music

At least 50% marks in Postgraduation in Music Education or equivalent.

Agriculture

At least 50% marks in Agriculture/Horticulture Graduation plus postgraduate qualification in one of the specified areas such as Agronomy, Plant Breeding & Genetics, Entomology, Plant Pathology, Seed Science & Technology, Soil Science or Horticulture.

Commerce

Commerce eligibility covers Entrepreneurship (EPS), Accountancy and Business Studies. Candidates qualifying TET in Commerce may apply for any one of these subjects; candidates qualifying TET specifically in EPS, Accountancy or Business Studies may apply only for the corresponding subject.

Age Limit

Cut-off dates

• Minimum age: calculated as on 01.08.2026.
• For maximum age, the notification states that the applicable calculation is based on 01.08.2024.
• Primary and Middle School: minimum 18 years as on 01.08.2026.
• Secondary and Higher Secondary: minimum 21 years as on 01.08.2026.

Maximum Age

Retirement age: 60 years.

Age Relaxation

The notification provides, among others:

• Regular Bihar Government employees: 5 years relaxation, subject to the conditions and maximum five permissible examination attempts.
• Persons with benchmark disabilities: 10 years additional maximum-age relaxation.
• Ex-servicemen: 3 years + period of service rendered in defence, subject to actual age not exceeding 57 years on the application date.
• Teachers appointed and working under Panchayati Raj Institutions/Nagar Nikay institutions: maximum age relaxation as applicable under the notification.
• Special one-time age-related provisions are provided for candidates covered by specified Supreme Court orders.
• NIOS 18-month D.El.Ed. candidates covered by the specified court order have the special age calculation mentioned in the notification.

Selection Process

Selection is based on:

1.      Preliminary Examination

2.      Main Examination

3.      Document verification/eligibility verification by the competent authority.

Interview: Not conducted.

Preliminary Examination

• Subject: General Studies
• Type: Objective/MCQ
• Duration: 2 hours
• Total Marks: 150
• Each question: 1 mark
• Negative marking: 1/3 mark
• Five options are provided, including an option for not attempting the question.
• If none of the five options is selected, 1/3 mark is deducted.
• Preliminary examination is only a screening examination.

Preliminary Minimum Qualifying Marks

The 32% provision related to women/PwD horizontal reservation is stated as applicable to Bihar-domiciled candidates under the cited government instructions.

Main Examination

The Main Examination is:

• Objective/MCQ
• 150 marks
• Generally 2 hours
• 1 mark per question
• 1/3 negative marking
• Five options are provided.

Main Examination Minimum Qualifying Marks

No provision for re-evaluation/reassessment is provided.

Main Exam Structure

Classes 1–5:
Language qualifying paper + General Studies.

Classes 6–8:
Language + General Studies + selected subject.

Classes 9–10:
Language + General Studies + selected subject.

Classes 11–12:
Language + General Studies + selected subject.

Language qualifying part requires at least 30%.

The subject options are specified separately for each level, including Hindi, English, Urdu, Sanskrit, Mathematics, Science, Social Science, Physical Science, Music, Bangla, Fine Arts, Dance, Maithili, Arabic, Persian and the higher-secondary subjects listed in the vacancy table.

Merit List

Classes 1–5

Merit is primarily based on Main Examination Part-II/General Studies marks.

If marks are equal:

1.      Language qualifying marks.

2.      Age.

3.      Alphabetical order of name in Devanagari script.

Classes 6–8, 9–10, Special School Teacher and 11–12

Merit is based on total marks of the relevant Main Examination parts.

Tie-breaking:

1.      Selected subject marks.

2.      Language qualifying marks.

3.      Age.

4.      Alphabetical order of name in Devanagari script.

Guest Teachers

Eligible guest teachers covered by the specified provisions may receive:

• 5 additional marks for each year of service
• Maximum 25 additional marks

The required experience certificate issued by the District Education Officer and appointment letter must be submitted.

Pay Scale / Salary

In addition, other allowances prescribed by the Bihar Government are applicable.

11. SC/ST caste certificate.

12. SC/ST permanent residence/domicile certificate.

13. Transgender domicile certificate and prescribed transgender certificate.

14. Permanent residence certificate for Bihar-resident UR women, where applicable.

15. EWS Income & Asset Certificate.

16. Freedom Fighter descendant certificate, where claimed.

17. Valid disability certificate.

18. Prescribed certificate and affidavit for scribe/other PwD facilities, where applicable.

19. Certificate for age relaxation for Panchayati Raj/Nagar Nikay teachers.

20. Ex-serviceman certificate for age relaxation.

21. Bihar Government employee certificate for age relaxation.

22. No Objection Certificate (NOC), where employed under Central/State Government or another government authority.

23. Photo ID as claimed in the application.

24. Four recent passport-size photographs.

25. Printed/downloaded application for Preliminary and Main Examination.

26. Preliminary and Main Examination e-Admit Cards.

How to Apply — Step-by-Step

Step 1 — One Time Registration (OTR)

• Visit https://bpsconline.bihar.gov.in
• Click New User Registration.
• Complete OTR using an active email ID and mobile number.
• OTR is mandatory for online applications.
• OTR itself is not an application.
• Only one OTR registration is permitted.
• Candidates who previously registered on the old portal must complete OTR again on the new portal.

Step 2 — DigiLocker

• After OTR, the DigiLocker/Meri Pehchan option appears.
• Existing DigiLocker users can give consent and link documents.
• New users may create a DigiLocker account.
• Candidates may proceed through the normal online application portal instead if they do not want to use DigiLocker.

Step 3 — Create Profile

The profile has six stages:

Step 5 — Experience

Step 6 — Photo & Signature

• Capture a live photograph through webcam.
• Upload Hindi and English signatures.
• Signature image should not exceed the specified size.
• Width: 150–220 pixels
• Height: 250–320 pixels
• Save and confirm the information.
• Click Submit and Lock Profile.

Step 7 — Apply for Advertisement

• Open New Application Tab.
• Select the active TRE-4.0 advertisement.
• Click Pay Fees.
• Accept Terms & Conditions.
• Select the desired post/category/subject.
• Verify payable amount.
• Choose online/SBI Payment Gateway.
• Preview.
• Click Confirm & Pay.

Step 8 — Complete Application Form

After successful payment:

• Open New Application.
• Click Apply.
• Click Proceed to Application.
• Complete the application.
• Click Submit Application.

Step 9 — Final Print

After final submission:

• Go to My Account.
• Open the relevant application.
• Use View → Application Print.
• Download and print two copies.
• Keep the application and supporting certificates safely.

Important Instructions / Terms & Conditions

• Application must be submitted online only.
• Printed, handwritten or incomplete applications are not accepted.
• Candidates should not wait until the last date.
• BPSC is not responsible for internet/banking failures.
• The candidate must use their own active mobile number and email ID.
• Keep the email and mobile number safe until final result publication.
• After application submission, information generally cannot be changed.
• If an error is found in the application, the notification provides for cancelling the application and submitting a fresh application where permitted.
• Cancelling payment/application does not result in refund.
• If payment is deducted but payment status remains pending, use Check Payment Status.
• Payment alone does not complete the application; Final Application Form must be submitted.
• If Final Application is not submitted after payment, candidature will not be valid.
• If information entered online does not match original certificates, candidature can be cancelled.
• Fake/incorrect certificates may result in cancellation of appointment, recovery of salary/amount paid and legal action.
• Hard copies do not need to be sent to the Commission unless specifically required.
• Keep the downloaded application, certificates and admit cards safely.
• The downloaded application should contain Application Number, Application ID and Bar Code on every page.
• Candidates should keep four recent passport-size photographs.
• Hindi and English signatures must be clear.
• No re-evaluation of the examination is provided.
• Candidates can participate in the examination a maximum of five times, subject to the applicable rules.
• The Commission's recommendation does not itself guarantee appointment; final eligibility verification is done by the administrative/education department.
• All required certificates must have been issued by 30.09.2026. Certificates issued after the application closing date are not accepted for eligibility purposes.
