Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Mumbai has released Advertisement No. 4/2026 (R-V) for the selection of Junior Research Fellows (JRF). The centre invites applications from talented students to work in Physical, Chemical and Life Sciences research areas supporting India’s nuclear energy programme. A total of 105 fellowships (indicative) are available. Selected candidates will register for Ph.D. at Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI). Candidates must have a valid score in national level examinations such as UGC-CSIR NET, JEST, ICMR-JRF, ICAR-JRF, DBT-JRB, GATE or JGEEBILS. The fellowship provides ₹37,000 monthly stipend initially, which can increase to ₹42,000 as SRF, with additional benefits. Applications are accepted online from 10 March 2026 to 31 March 2026.Candidates should carefully review the official notification before applying.

Educational Qualification

Candidates must have any one of the following degrees:

  • M.Sc.
  • Integrated M.Sc.
  • B.S-M.S. (Dual Degree)
  • B.S. with fourth year research

Minimum marks required:

  • B.Sc.: 60% aggregate
  • M.Sc.: 55% aggregate
  • Integrated M.Sc./B.S-M.S.: 55% aggregate
  • 4-year B.S. (Research): 75% aggregate

Candidates awaiting final results may apply under the conditions mentioned in the notification. All academic requirements for the qualifying degree must be completed before 10 August 2026.

Candidates must have valid qualification in at least one of the following:

  • GATE (Physics / Chemistry / Life Sciences / Biotechnology)

Age Relaxation

  • OBC-NCL: 3 years
  • SC/ST: 5 years

Selection Process / Recruitment Process

The recruitment process consists of:

  1. Scrutiny of applications.
  2. Shortlisting based on national level exam score and eligibility.
  3. Personal interview at BARC.
  4. Final selection based on performance in interview only.

In case of tie, marks obtained in M.Sc./B.Sc. will be considered.

 

Pay Scale / Salary Details

Junior Research Fellowship

₹37,000 per month stipend for first 2 years.


Senior Research Fellowship

₹42,000 per month from third year onward after performance review.


Additional Benefits

  • Contingency grant: ₹60,000 per year (including book allowance)
  • Financial assistance to attend one international conference abroad during PhD (subject to conditions).

Total fellowship duration: 5 years.
